Extra snack.

I work at Terry Redlin Elementary with the Kids Inc. after school program. Thursday I had brought cookies in to share with the kids. They are provided a snack while in our care but most of them turned down the normal snack, which was graham crackers, for the cookie. At the end of the day when most of my kids had been picked up I started to pick up our site and realized I had a ton of these graham crackers left, technically we are supposed to send back what ever we don't use, but I have a brother and sister at my site who I have a feeling don't get enough to eat at home. I asked them if they wanted to take it home and their faces lit up. When mom came to pick them up they had to show her what they had been given, she herself was very grateful. It breaks my heart that such a small gesture on my part can be something of great significance to these kids. I wish I could do more for them. I feel like even if I get myself in trouble by sending them home with extra food every now and again, its totally worth it.
